Just Another Manic Monday

A happy bday to the littlest TSM who turns all of 7 tomorrow!

Hard to believe it was 7 years ago next month we returned to Toronto.

So, I was thinking about all this negativity surrounding the radio ratings and the brutally small number of people meters out there. Besides poll daddy, can anyone think of a webtool I could use to try and conduct our own poll here on TSM. It would need to be ask age and gender in addition to allowing people to record their listening habits. Lastly it would need some sort of isp lookup to ensure that the same folks weren’t voting over and over again.

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Not calling for any heads but I said before the season that I thought Ron Wilson had to go at least 12-8 to keep his job by the 20 game pole. So here we are a little past and they are 11-8 and 2 and 4-5-1 in their last 10. What’s a GM to do? Yes he has lots of injuries, but the schedule’s about to get much tougher. Interesting times in leafs land.

Love the quiet in the NBA these days. With each passing day they slip more and more into the irrelevant.

Happy Monday!

Happy Birthday Littlest TSM!

I’m waiting for Ron Wilson to show up and rip you for revealing that your son has aged. Isn’t that medical status? Aren’t you his parent?

Good one Ami… I like your posts!

As for the Leafs coach, I think Burke has painted himself into a corner and will do nothing. The time to have replaced Rotten Ronnie was at the end of last season in my opinion. That would be the right thing to do for allowing the new coach to succeed. Mid season is tricky as not too many candidates are available and usually come at a premium price — meaning they want longer terms than the team wants to give. For Burke it would be a tough call as no matter what he does will get questioned and Burke hates being questioned in any form as he firmly believes that he is always the smartest guy in the room. A typical bully who doesn’t see past his own large ego.

However, one possibility does exist that I think is worth exploring. If the Leafs continue to slide over their next 4 games or so, turf Wilson and his attitude and bring in Mike Keenen as a fill in until the end of the season only knowing a ne full time guy will be sought to bring in after the season. Iron Mike is only good for a short term and works well with young teams, so could be a good solution in the short term and deflect some of the commentary off of Burke. Last week Keenen stated very clearly he would like to coach in Toronto one day to complete his portfolio of gigs.

Anyone else think that this is a plausible idea? And don’t forget that the NHL could have labour issues next year as a new CBA needs to be agreed upon. There is no guarantee that will go smoothly. More likely a battle that could end in another lost season. If that happens no coach at all will be needed, and by then MLSE could possibly be sold and Burke and his whole management team sent packing.

I pondered the coaching situation a bit last week.

We know Wilson is the one constant on the worst penalty killing team over the last four years. Many people speak of special teams being a true indicator of a coaches role.

The team is doing okay to fair, special teams not so much.

Dallas Eakins, a Burke hire to the Toronto Marlies just happens to be the coach of the team with the BEST penalty kill in the AHL.

Things that make you go “Hmmmm…”

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
