Toronto Sports Media Sports Radio Lineups

This is an image of the new arena proposal in Markham. What’s the end game with this? Graeme Roustan guarantees money can be made without a professional sports team, which flies in the face of the conventional wisdom of running a large building.

Hey, that picture doesn’t have spotlights! It must be a fake! (the entire arena appears to be on fire though)

In the 5-520 discussion, John and Bob are talking about arenas, and how the 3 privately-funded arenas have new owners since they were built, mainly because of the debt cost.
About the Leafs, Shannon said “and where’s Steve Stavro now?”. Uh, he’s dead John was my response. I know what he was trying to say (Stavro had given up control a few years before he died), but just the way if spilled out was unfortunate.

I caught the dude behind this arena talking this morning on the repeat. Holy beating around the bush! He danced around every question Bob asked. As Bob said, it ain’t happening. It amkes zero economic sense, especially the way things are going now.

Anyone remember Kingswood Music Theater? Other than the CHIN Picnic, does it ever get used anymore? When you have an arena in the heart of the big city, with guaranteed walk up traffic, why would you build in the boonies? I recently did a wedding shoot near that area, and no offense to anyone that lives there, but it’s not exactly the safest place to be.

I think it all depends on the events they are able to attract. People didn’t go see Pearl Jam last month because they were playing at the conveniently-located ACC. They went because they are hard core fans of the band. They would have gone to Markham to see the show if they had to.

Same could be said for NHL hockey. People would drive to Markham, Hamilton, Kitchener/Waterloo to see a second Southern Ontario hockey team (but that’s never gonna happen, in my opinion).
