Different Topic. Do the Blue Jays have a Lame Duck Manager? Word on the Baseball Street is that the Red Sox had conversations with John Farrell about two weeks ago, about becoming the Red Sox manager. When they couldn’t agree on a deal with AA they came to a two year agreement with Valentine until Farrell’s contract is over. Valentine gets a Front Office position after his two year deal is up. Then Farrell takes over.

Farrell isn’t THAT valuable. No MLB team throws away 2 years on a stiff, waiting on a guy who hasn’t accomplished a thing as a MLB manager.

Yeah, I find it hard to believe the Red Sox would sit through two years of a manager they don’t really want, so that they can dump him in 2 years and finally get their guy. If so they’re worse off than we thought!

This needs to be put to bed immediately!
Either Farrell is the manager, or he isn’t.
If this is not put to bed, this is going to be hanging over the Jays head for the next two years.
AA needs to come out in the press and say that this is over. To be having discussions two weeks ago is unacceptable about Farrell going to Boston. I was watching Brady/Lang this morning and they were discussing this. Offer Farrell a one year contract extension. See what he says. If he does not accept, there is your answer, and run Farrell the hell out of town!

The rumour started from a previous MLB GM who was close to one of the managerial candidates. The candidate pulled out over a week ago when the Sox were only offering a two year contract. Valentine came in late for various reasons, all of which make sense. The fact that Valentines contact was for two years did not become official until 5:30 pm yesterday. In short, all the dots seem to connect when you realize this was a Sox ownership decision and not their new GM’s.
