Kudos to Mashable for digging this up:
The Tampa bay lightning are selling jerseys with radio frequency chips in them:
“Season ticket holders scan the quarter-sized chip embedded in their jerseys’ right sleeve, they receive a 25% discount on all concessions and 35% on all merchandise purchased at the arena. Each chip also has a unique ID, allowing the team to track who buys what, which Lott says will allow the team to analyze the most effective future deals and promotions. And Lott says there are many more bonuses to come.”
How frigging cool is that?
TB has been to hell and back, what a cool owner thy have to bring that in. Brilliant!
TSM
what is it regatrding for.
They’re being smart to deliver more to their most valuable customers and make season tickets more attractive to prospective customers.
Shoalts has a story on the current state of the Coyotes. Reading it was like sitting down with a novel you’ve put down for 6 months and then come back to. Goldwater, Scruggs, Reinsdorf, Moyes … i had forgotten about all these characters.

Im guessing those are the $$$ authentic replicas, so i wonder how many discounts it will take to offset buying the sweater.
The jerseys are “free” with the purchase of a full season ticket. In otherwords, only full season ticket holders have the microchip jerseys. They are not for sale on an individual basis. Good stuff.
That’s the beauty, the jerseys are free for STHs.
@Alex they’re free with your season ticket holder purchase.
They should do this in Glendale, AZ. It seems nothing short of microchipping all of their citizens and finding out none of them actually go into the arena will convince their city council that people there don’t care about hockey. xD
