I was waiting for Demers to make a parallel between between the importance of a Habs coach to learn French and his own efforts to learn to read after he was appointed to the Canadian senate.

I don’t mean this in a snarky way at all – I do think there is a reasonable parallel here, especially since he spoke so openly about his problem many times.

All of the anti-McCown people will be happy to know that he is off for the next two weeks and then his current contact ends………….I assume he will be back in January but I have not heard any confirmation that he has signed a new deal

McCown and PTS get quite a bit of criticism from the people who comment on this site but I’m sure 590 doesn’t mind all that much because PTS continues to do very well in the ratings……………..meanwhile very few people here praise or criticize Cybulski’s show……………a few months ago that show made a major change (bringing in Mackowycz as full time co-host) and I think I can’t count on one hand the number of people who have commented on that on this site

I only listen to tsn when arthur is on.

I might listen more if they would podcast the full show. Never heard a good reason why they dont.

Good point Mike S. I’ve thought that if you just read the comments on this blog, and knew nothing else, you’d think McCowns show was the worst rated in Toronto.

I guess people complaining is a sign they listen … and (sometimes) a sign they give a damn.

The strength of McCown is that he forces listeners to be active and elicites a response. People either love him or hate him — but either way they are engaged. You can only say that about a handful of Canadian talk radio personalities.

Check out the article Bob Elliott, FOB (friend of Bob) wrote in the Sun today about Darvish.

He makes a huge factual error: He states Dice K (who has been mediocre at best) helped Boston end the curse of the bambino in 2008. Elliott is wrong on both counts – firstly, Boston didn’t win the WS in 2008 (Philly did) and secondly, the curse had ended in 2004 when they won the series. They subsequently won in 2007.

    Some writer he is.

Good find Roger. Does the Sun not have an editor to review Elliott’s posting before it goes live, and even so, would they have recognized the obvious errors. Quite shocking, but not really when you listen to Elliott on PTS and hear how uninformed he is on what is going on in the world around him.

No doubt Bob’s best before date has long expired, and he got his recent Hall of Fame accolades for his past work, not for anything done in recent years. I still enjoy listening to him when he is coherent on the air, and he does have great chemistry as a FOB, but still hard to overlook this one.

Good find Roger, I am from Bob E’s hometown of Kingston and am embarrassed every time he is called on for PTS, he sounds drunk all the time, he makes guys like Blair, Grange and other fellow stammerers sound like perfection. i’m glad he got into Cooperstown but it was clearly from past efforts because nothing he has written or tried to say over the past decade has made his entry worthy.

I wonder if a few years from now we’ll look back at this whole Darvish thing and think “Thank God we didn’t get him!”? He’ll probably dazzle the first go around, and once guys get the book on him, bu-bye.
