did Brian Burke call anyone a dirtbag or a gutless coward on PTS today?
It was a good interview actually on PTS with Bobcat and Damien….. If I had to deal with clowns like Joe Warmington or Steve Simmons from Toronto Sun on a regular basis i’m sure i’d call them dirtbags or gutless cowards too lol…..
No, it was a puff piece.
Damien Cox insisting that the Blackhawks did not screw up their cap was so ridiculous. >_> You can screw up your cap and STILL win the Stanley Cup. Those are 2 separate things. You can’t even deny that by forgetting to send qualifying offers to those players forced the Hawks to sign them to bigger contracts than if they had tendered those offers. I’m unsure how Cox can argue with a straight fact that wasn’t a screw up.
I normally don’t side with Kypreos on matters, but he looked like a genius next to Cox today.
His point (and for once I agree with Cox) was regardless of what was done or not done with the Cap it was more than worth it when they won the Stanley Cup!!!! Not that I am one but ask any Leaf fan if they had a choice of winning a Stanley Cup but could only do so by screwing up your team cap I’d venture a wild guess in saying 100% of them would sign up!
But they could have done it WITHOUT screwing up the team cap.
The reason they had to trade Versteeg was because they had to sign him to a bigger contract than if they had just qualified him. They SCREWED UP by forgetting to qualify by the deadline. If they hadn’t, the team would still be exactly the same but under cap the years after, and they’d still have won the cup because the team would still be the same.
They won ONE Stanley cup, but the cap screw up meant breaking up the team years before they’d had to have, and they screwed their chance to win more. The cap screw up did not contribute at all to them winning the cup so it’s stupid to say “they won the cup so they didn’t screw up their cap”. They did both.
My God, you should apply for a GM position. As a fan of the Hawks I can tell you with ease I am in no way worried about the Hawks roster. They have finished the past two seasons with 97 and 112 points, and this year are sitting with 73 points and in position for another playoff run, how bad did they screw it up? You say they lost Kris Versteeg, omg stop the presses.
Darren you are so right, as a fellow Indian fan after two cups in three years after this i can only say i hope my Yanks would screw up their cap as well.
Okay, you’re a Hawks fan, that explains it. xD
You’re missing the point though. What Cox said was that the Blackhawks had to break up the team because they had cap problems. Kypreos pointed out that it was because they screwed up the cap when they forgot to tender the qualifying offers on time and so had to sign players to higher contracts.
That’s true. Cox and you are alleging that this is related to them winning the Stanley Cup and therefore worth it. But it’s unrelated. They didn’t win the Cup BECAUSE they screwed up tendering the offers (and therefore screwed up the cap) they won the Cup AND screwed up the cap. That they screwed up the cap is a fact, it’s irrelevant to whether they won the Cup, they’d have won the Cup if they had tendered the offers on time, that action had nothing to do with their performance, but it DID affect their cap flexibility and it was unnecessary, it was literally a mistake. Not a subjective, Ami thinks it’s a mistake, it WAS a mistake, they MEANT to tender the offers on time, and they didn’t. xD
The point is, that your team would still have won the Cup BUT have more cap flexibility if not for that mistake. You’d have the same team, but more money to spend, and more flexibility with contracts. What Kypreos was talking about was finances, not performance on the ice. Cox tried to conflate the two, and in this case, one had nothing to do with the other.
