Sharks Circling Maple Leafs Waters

The Miami heat with their current roster, the New York Yankees are hated franchises. The Toronto Maple Leafs are in many ways the team that hockey fans love to hate the most. We Leaf fans are a targeted bunch as a result. I mean the Cubs and Cub fans are the loveable losers right? The Leafs and Leaf nation? Not so much.

So with the team having imploded it’s no surprise that the media having smelled blood are going for the jugular. In their defense it’s hard to defend the team all that well. The record speaks for itself.

The Burke hating Toronto Sun is in full force right now and if this current trend continues at least Leaf fans will be amused by the Suns musings the rest of the way.

“For all the supposed front office talent the Leafs have, they have misidentified and overpaid players time and time again, putting the overall structure in a salary capped league in difficulty.

The financial commitments to Connolly, to defenceman Mike Komisarek, to winger Colby Armstrong, to defencemen Luke Schenn and John Michael-Liles, and earlier to defenceman Francois Beaucheim — was a whopping $70.7 million in long term contracts. Almost all of it was misspent, although no one could have predicted Armstrong’s run of injuries which has rendered him marginal, and has put the Leafs in cap constraints going forward.”

That from Steve Simmons.

Those beats are only going to get louder.

“Well, with the club having fallen into a deep crevice that already threatens to affect next year, as new coach Randy Carlyle is already finding his record stained by this troop of players, Burke has now fallen upon decision time for his signature player.

Fish or cut bait time. And cutting bait makes the most sense.”

That from Damien Cox.

I had the same conversation with LT today. I don’t blame Kessel at all. The guy has done a ton with next to no supporting cast. Having said that wouldn’t you say he is the right guy at the wrong time. If the Leafs really were 1-2 players away then there is no way you’d consider dealing him. Under the current circumstances one has to wonder why he would stick around when his deal is done.

Greg Brady on the Fan has stated earlier that if the Leafs didn’t make the playoffs Burke should be fired.

This is only the beginning Leafs fans.

So, the Score story won’t go away. On a no name basis here are the jobs that were eliminated yesterday:

Web editor, creator/writer
Web producer/blogger
Web writer
TV Director
On-air reporter
Voice Reporter

Sounds like a company wide (what’s left anyways) meeting was held today. the gist of which was updates every :28 and :58, more live things, most shows cancelled. However the rumor is that they will launch a new show when Tim and Sid is on TV.

I am told that advertising demand for the Blue Jays across all verticals is off the charts. There is real optimism in the advertising world that the team is on the right track. I wonder how much the Leafs destruction has lead to this.

I am working on the radio ratings for the last quarter. Should have them soon.

Great article by Simmons today!

As far as Leafs Nation the Toronto Maple Leafs and their MLSE butt kissing broadcasters go it’s time to get the golf clubs out again!!

To Joe Bowen and his lap dog Greg Millen, to Bob McGill, Andy Frost, Dan Dunleavy, Jim Ralph, Paul Hendricks and the Leaf braintrust led by the big blowhard himself Brian Burke…

SUCK IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never thought I would see a negative comment about Jim Ralph. If only the
Raptors had a radio guy half as funny(on purpose) as Ralph. Instead we get
Jones/Smith comparing Hoffa Araujo to Brad Miller, and the supposed
brilliance of Raptor coaches who for some reason never got a head coaching
job after Toronto (Lenny Wilkins doesn’t count because he was hired by that genius Isiah Thomas).

I look forward to the Bob McCown and James Cybulski interviews with Ralph.

Took awhile to name the voices but Don Landry and Bill Hayes are doing a 2 hour stint on CFRB 1010 from 10pm to midnight. The topic they covered was testing on monkeys at U of T but they had literally no knowledge of the issue. One even wondered about the morality of testing on humans if a person volunteered over the monkey. What an uncomfortable session of radio, to be sure!
