who invited Loyd Christmas (Stephen Marche) to the round table? what a waist of space

March 30, 2012 6:37 pm

2 b fair, how can anyone get a f’n word in with goggles there AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!

March 30, 2012 6:53 pm

Exactly, Darren. The guy actually made an interesting point early on and was jumped on/shouted down by Shannon. Obviously, he didn’t see much point in saying much more. John Shannon ruins every round table. Ridiculous.

March 30, 2012 7:10 pm

Why llisten to the roundtable if you dont like the people on it? There are better options.

March 30, 2012 7:18 pm

Yup, I’ve come to that conclusion, Stan. I already tune out if Cox is on, and now I’m adding Shannon to the boycott. Which basically means that’s that.

Grantland have some very good podcasts, btw. Intelligent people having actual conversations. Imagine that!

I must have some masochistic tendencies because I listened to Goggles today on PTS. His belief that Roberto Luongo could cure all that ails the Leafs is in my opinion ridiculous. Also his statement that Martins would have coached this current Habs squad into the playoffs. With advances in technology, one day you will have the option of muting individual PTS hosts while still hearing the others.

I liked Stephen 2. Maybe I won’t like him if I listen to him more, but I didn’t find him grating or annoying or anything.

I personally think they should have a special roundtable one day (if there’s a year where April 1 falls on Friday that would be perfect) with Bob McCown, Bob McKeown, Stephen Brunt and fantasty author, Steven Brust.

Shannon said that Jeff Molson is to blame for the Canadiens’ problems. Brunt asked him that outside of the Cunneyworth thing, what did Molson do?

Shannon said that Molson decided that he decided to be more than an owner and meddled and made decisions.

Brunt says that all the decisions made were by the GM. Shannon says that Molson let the GM make the decisions though, and should have done something.

Wait… so Molson is to blame because he’s meddling, but also to blame because he SHOULD have meddled?

I love how Shannon completely changed his argument after Brunt neutered his original point. xD

Shannon, how did he have such a lengthy career as an top dog in broadcasting?Friday he was just silly, Brunt could not contain himself, he had to challenge some of the crazy shit coming out of Shannons mouth. Does Bob have him on just for comedy relief now?

April 2, 2012 11:53 am

I swear I saw Brunt give Shannon a death stare at one point, looked up at the monitor, realized that didn’t look good, then changed his expression to look more “diplomatic”.

Does Bob just have Shannon on the show because he enjoys bothering Brunt and Cox? There was a roundtable a month or so ago where Shannon and Cox were just going at it for the whole 2 hours and I actually felt bad for Cox.

April 2, 2012 9:34 pm

I actually believe Bob likes Shannon. I can’t understand why else he’s on as much as he is.

Cox and Shannon on the round table: Unlistenable (Bobism)

Hmmm I just realized something…

from last last Friday’s roundtable:

Brunt says he’d still make the Phaneuf trade

Shannon: Knowing what you know now?

Brunt: Well you can never know what you kn-

Shannon: KNOWING what you know now?

From last Friday’s roundtable:

Bob asks if hypothetically Jim Nill was available would Montreal not hire him because he’s an anglophone.

Shannon says it’s impossible because of his contract.

Bob stresses HYPOTHETICALLY and Shannon says it doesn’t matter because it’s impossible.

In the first case, Brunt was talking about the real life situation and Shannon just interrupts him and seems to want a hypothetical situation where GM Brunt is clairvoyant.

In the second case, Bob is trying to make a point about how silly he feels the French-speaking requirement in Montreal is, and Shannon interrupts him and short-circuits the whole discussion saying it’s moot because it could never happen (which is irrelevant, because the point is would Montreal waive their requirement for somebody who is really qualified, not whether such a person would be hire-able at this very second)

Does Shannon just hate discussions or something? He seems to like dead-ending every discussion topic with stuff like the above.

April 2, 2012 11:29 pm

He doesn’t discuss anything. He states his opinion and prevents others from stating theirs. Hell of a guy for a roundtable “discussion”.

Man, people do seem to get tired of him, don’t they? HNIC fired his ass. Leafs TV fired his ass. Sportsnet???

(Okay, maybe his parting from those gigs was “mutual”. I’m not sure.)

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
