Mr. Anselmi was just grilled by Bob and Stephen, great questions no softballs. Anselmi hung in and gave honest and direct answers, as a leaf fan THANKS. As suggested by Bob, maybe he is the go to suit to answer the tough Q’s, the ownership ” face ” so to speak. Well done.

Bob and Brunt at their best with that interview. Even called out Burke for not showing up. This is why PTS is the number one drive home show. Great radio.

Looking forward to catching that McCown/Brunt interview with Anselmi. They can be really good together when they decide to really grill someone.

In stark contrast to that – I caught a bit of Hockey Central with Bill Daly in studio when I was in the car today. I’m not usually one to get too critical of shows, but I really thought it was a joke. Sounded like 4 buddies having a laugh rather than an interview.

At one point I heard this:

Millard: (hopeful) Hey, maybe we’ll see a return to 80s style hockey.
Kypreos: And that wouldn’t be a bad thing.
Maclean: (mumbles in agreement)
Daly: Well, we don’t want a return to 80s hockey

*pause*

Millard, Kypreos, Maclean: Oh, no no, we don’t want that. You’re right. etc.

Question – does the MLB, NBA and NFL media suck up to its league as much as the NHL media does? With the exception of a few ‘outsiders’, NHL coverage just seems like a total ass kiss from guys like Dreger, Millard, Kypreos, MacKenzie etc etc. I don’t think we see this from guys like Gammons and Rosenthal in MLB etc.

Mr. Anselmi sputtered and twisted the answers to Bob & Stephen’s questions the best he could in a favourable response to questions that Burke should be fielding. I have never been a big fan of any of the MLSE management group but actually felt sorry for Tom today being put in that position because the big, tough and testosterone laden Burke whimped out… again.

For many weeks now, Burke has REFUSED to go on PTS as he fully knows that Bob will ask him tough questions and actually have a nice social love-in. The only way he would go on PTS is if Damien was the only one lobbing softball questions at him. Lord knows that Mr. Cox still believes Burke can do no wrong where undoubtedly must pay him for such allegience.

Burke is portraying classic bully tactics. He only picks fights when he figures he is going to win. That is why he pumped his chest out yesterday and shot back at the “Pittsburgh methods” question as he knew he could intimidate the media at his own press conference.

Burke looks and acts like a heavy boozer. If he is not, maybe he should start as everything else he has done while in Toronto has failed and is now just a comical cartoon character.

I heard millard ask some hard questions, about phoenix and the cba negotiations.

I usually ignore what the other two usually say.

As an outsider, “not a Leaf Fan” but living in this market and listening and reading all the angst, why do I get the feeling that all the problems with the Leafs stem with the impatience and interference of Larry Tanenbaum? You all should know where the buck stops. Your team is at least seven years from a Stanley Cup appearance.

@Alex – I didn’t listen that long, so if Millard grilled Daly then I stand corrected.

looking forward to listening to this interview. thanks for the reviews.

the question of which major sport’s media corps is softest is a great one. someone should do a write-up about that and submit it here. i recall TSM saying he wanted more writers for this site, and that would make for good discussion.

I caught the Anselmi interview, and was impressed with the questions both McCown and Brunt directed his way. They were the exact questions frustrated Toronto sports fans of their properties wanted answered.

The most interesting question for me was the question about the faceless, anonymous corporation, with no direct accountability and public face for the fans to direct their frustrations at. Anselmi I thought gave the perfect response i.e. Corporations are people, who are professionals but care too and of course want to win, why wouldn’t they, as it makes financial sense on all levels, and that even if they are filling the seats through losing periods (granted, we are going threw a starvation period now) that does not mean they accept it, and are even more frustrated than the fans.

Anselmi seems by stepping up and granting interviews, setting himself up well to be the public face, and in light of Burke’s obstinance (Big surprise) he certainly when Bob asked him, would gladly accept Peddie’s role if asked. Brilliant by Bob to ask him what would be the first thing he would do in that role, and Anselmi immediately answered “settle things down”, due to all the recent changes, and stability more than ever is needed within. Anselmi is obviously heavily lobbying for the position.
