Listened to Blair for the first time in 6 months yesterday, it was funny how depressed and gloomy as ever about Jays and Raptors, but he said that if the Raptors can’t attract Nash, they should put the raptors ” on wheels and take them out of here”….wonder how he’ll sound today…

Blair is really stoking the anti-Nash flames this morning.

We’re such a nation of dopes. To think that simple patriotic ties will make a guy come to a perrenial loser if beyond stupid.

The guy has never won a title. Let him try. He owes us nothing.

Ridiculous claim on Blair’s part. Pack up the team because a 38 year old who’s never been in the finals didn’t want to come to a team that’s had one playoff series win in 17 years?

Please. Look at the passion and interest this rumour stirred up. The raptors have a fairly remarkable fan base in light of how bad they’ve been.

baseball central has been awesome so far. Cosentino is fairly bland but he knows baseball and does a very good job of asking questions and getting out of the way. Dirk is going to struggle a little finding the right balance between being “one of the guys” and being a member of the media, but he’s articulate and interesting so i’m sure he’ll negotiate that well.
.

all in all it is a welcome addition to the weekly schedule and TSN are idiots for not beating the FAN to the punch on this kind of show.

@Chef – Blair was pretty bullish on the Jays in the part I heard. Say the good play might force AAs hand to acquire some players to try to make a push this year. Ridiculously gloomy on the Raps though, yeah.

I agree on all counts MIB..

I believe Nash was NEVER coming here, he was playing both sides against the middle to drive up value, the smartest thing to do. Sure, he left $7M on the table, but he’s made $60M+ already and wants rings, and that will not happen here in the foreseable future.

@Daniel…As for Blair and the Jays, I thought he said he expected 88 wins, a pace they are well behind, but I may have misheard. As for AA making a push this year, I highly doubt it, he’s never done it in the past, they’re tied for last in their division, and sadly, they really only have 3-4 pieces of “real” value anyone would want, and those are guys he wants to build around.

…turns out i was right on the Darish bid, I said they were not even close…

Been trying to listen to Friedman on with Tim, but too much basketball talk. Lots of switching back and forth with podcasts and BBC.

I thought the two hours of Friedman and Micallef on 590 this afternoon were excellent…………..Friedman told some great stories about his early days covering the Raptors

His Spider Jones story was also pretty good.

I’ve just started to notice that Mazda is pronounced differently in these commercials in Canada that it is in the States.

Canada – Mazz-dah
USA – Mahz-dah

@chef I doubt he’ll make a rental type move, but I’d anticipate he’ll attempt to acquire someone with more than one year of control.

“and sadly, they really only have 3-4 pieces of “real” value anyone would want”

That’s not correct. Aside from guys on the MLB roster like Bautista, Morrow, Rasmus,Alvarez, Lawrie, Rajai Davis, Janssen, Oliver, KJ, EE, Arencibia (who all have solid to exceptional value) they’ve got one of the top three of four deepest systems in MLB. Absolutely loads to offer that other teams would want. Just a question of finding the right deal.

@Daniel, you’re a smart guy on the Jays, but again you miss the point…

…”That’s not correct. From your list above…

…subtract the guys that AA can’t trade without admitting to Jays limited fandom that they are shitcanning the season….again…

…subtract the guys who, while being #1 on the Jays roster in those roles, are only EQUAL or less to the guys on other most teams in those same positions…

…subtract the number of teams who are out of it and won’t make trades regardless of their value in or out…

…subtract the contenders who might want to deal who don’t have guys in those same roles who are EQUAL or better in talent/salary/options than what the Jays can offer them…

…subtract the guys who AA can actually trade with getting contracts that are not “under team control” or whatever his salary model is called…

…subtract the guys in the “three of four deepest systems in MLB”, because no contender in a position to make a deal really cares about Las Vegas 2nd baseman who might help in 2014…

You’re not wrong, but the business case you make is flawed, and Rogers is all about business….

haha… I like arguing with you about the Jays, Mike!

I don’t know what to tell you about the points you made, except that all the guys I mentioned do really have value. And loads of guys on the farm have value. There are lots of chips to use.

I don’t blame you for being fed up with the team. A total mediocre disappointment from about 1994 to 2009 – 100% agree with you there. But what AA has done since the 09 season is smart. Give it some time and I think you’ll be pleased.
