I don’t get to praise Jim Lang & specifically Greg Brady often – but totally applaud them for the chatter this morning about the shooting in Kansas City over the weekend.

A new term has emerged in the pundit’s lexicon “doing a Bettman”?

The headline “The White House Does a Gary Bettman” appeared in my newsfeed this morning. It is from some conservative news site TownHall in the US categorizing the “insulting nature” of Obama’s opening position in the fiscal cliff talks.

I am curious as to the views of those who post here with respect to media coverage of the lockout and potential fallout for the league.

We had a family get together this weekend where all things Blue Jays and NFL were enthusiastically discussed and debated. However, when it came to the NHL it was brief with complete agreement on two points: Don’t care if they play or not and there is absolutely no interest in coverage by the media. It is to the point where shows are turned off when the topic is raised. The sense was that the NHL is on the road towards driving past “the last exit to relevance”.

I thought Steve Nash chose the Lakers because it was closer to his family.

    this is really well put.

as i was deleting podcasts this morning after a week off from listening it occurred to me that both stations seem to have experts on the air every day to discuss the lockout. i realize they are paying these people so they need to find work for them, but it also became clear that there is absolutely no point to these interviews and segments whatsoever.

this can’t be easy for TSN/RSN, but they should probably consider a Plan B soon.

I caught a couple of minutes of the lunch time hockey show with Doug McLean. He said something about flying up this morning from Florida to do radio/TV etc. So he actually lives down there but gets flown up here by Rogers every Monday, and I assume flown back on Friday, and housed all week, just to spend each day discussing the lockout?

Brady & Lang were bang on this morning on Sportsnet 590 The Fan as was Mike Farwell re KC Chiefs incident. Did anyone else hear Sid & Tim in the first hour of PTS talking with Bob about the KC Chiefs incident? excellent radio!

Yeah. I think you nailed it with “they are paying these people so they need to find work for them”.

I guess the most recent HC at noon ratings were good, so there’s justification to keep the guys on talking about nothing, but you’ve got to think that won’t last the longer this goes on. And really, if the season gets canned, you’ve got to get the hockey shows/experts off ASAP.

At least with the renewed Jays buzz, you could probably start up baseball central in Feb or March if the NHL season gets canned.
