By Ami Angelwings

4pm hour – Listener phone calls with Bob McCown

  • Calls are mostly about the Blue Jays and the Dickey trade, one caller rants about how Brian Burke isn’t measuring up to Anthopolous

5pm hour – Bob McCown hosting, Stephen Brunt co-hosting

First segment: Talk segment

  • Bob and Brunt discuss the pessimism of Jays fans over the Dickey trade, Brunt says that Toronto fans aren’t used to their teams being favourites, are looking for things to be worried about
  • Bob and Brunt discuss their love of baseball
  • Bob talks about how he doesn’t want to watch the Super Bowl live, tells his one Super Bowl story

Second segment: Interview with Nick Kypreos, Sportsnet hockey analyst

  • Bob, Kypreos and Brunt joke around a bit, briefly talk about the NHL lockout

Third segment: Interview with Matt Stairs, former MLB player

  • Stairs talks about his strategy towards hitting knuckleballers and why he’s so successful

6pm hour – Bob McCown hosting, Stephen Brunt co-hosting

First segment: Interview with Rob Becker, Sportsnet legal analyst

  • Becker agrees with Bob that the NHLPA decertification is obviously a negotiating tactic and believes a court will overturn it
  • Becker points out the difference between a union voting to decertify and the NHLPA asking it’s union leadership to disclaim interest in being a union
  • Becker talks about Oakley suing Rory McIlroy and Nike over breach of contract, claiming that they had a right to match any offer McIlroy got for sponsorship and McIlroy did not honour that

Second segment: Interview with Butch Carter, former NBA head coach

  • Carter talks about Calderon’s play, says that being in a contract year has a lot to do with it
  • Carter says one of the reasons the Lakers are not playing well is because Dwight Howard is not as good as he was in Orlando because he has a bad back

Third segment: Interview with Sam Page,

  • Page went to the same R.A. Dickey’s high school and talks about how Dickey was his hero
  • Page talks about interviewing Dickey 2 years ago as a sophomore in college

I found it interesting that Becker had the opposite opinion about the NHLPA decertifying than the business professor that Bob interviewed last night.  We all know Bob’s opinion about the decertification (that it’s a sham and shouldn’t be allowed to happen), and he clearly liked Becker’s answer better than the one he got the day before.  Brunt is all for decertification, so his questions were more about trying to explore other possibilities that it could be effective.

I really don’t have much to say about this show beyond that.  I found Carter’s suggestion that Howard is injured interesting, but I don’t listen to much basketball analysis in general, so it might already be well known or speculated on.
