there was no new year post so i’ll just use this one to thank all the commenters for their insights. i always enjoy reading other people’s opinions on sports media and i find most of our disagreements here instructive.
my wish for the new year: TSN radio gets its shit together and invests in serious Jays coverage. We’ll see if that’s the path they have chosen when spring training rolls around. If they don’t have a beat guy down there filing daily reports, then it’ll likely be another pathetic year of Scott Ferguson (certified nice human being) taking time off from doing updates to be the Jays expert.
I like how that cory’s clothier commercial is just him plugging his vacation, including name dropping his hotel and airline. As bobcat wouldsay, “buy a spot!”
I agree, but Scott is way better than most SN sales people.
(buy your tickets now.) At least he provides a balanced view, If you agree with him or not.
Happy New Year to you too, Mike!

Maybe a talking head like Barry Davis or something is biased toward the Jays, but in general, Fan hosts have been far more negative on the Jays the past few years than the US MLB media is. (Brady, McCown, Zaun etc)
I’m not sure I have ever heard Scott Ferguson say something highly critical of the Blue Jays or one of their players so I don’t think I would use the term “balanced” to describe him…………………..some broadcasters are better at giving out information than providing analysis and he is one of those guys
um,
(a) he does it every year, has for many many years; and
(b) i think he did buy a spot (you did refer to it as a commercial).
I was referring to plugging his hotel and airline in the commercial, which seems like smarmy piggyybacking and likely done as a trade off. But i find most of his spots to be skeevy. Prob just me. 🙂
