I listen more to Naylor than Bob now, but I still usually enjoy the PTS roundtables. The 6pm PTS today was terrific as the cast got into a contentious debate about fighting in hockey. Brunt seemed to really be getting under Bob’s skin at times. At one point when Shannon brought up Ed Snider’s name in the roundtabe, to counter something Bob said, it was with barely controlled anger. One of the rare times Bob actually cared about an issue.

But the best radio today(maybe this week) was again Michael Landsberg on with Matt Cauz. Apparently Landsberg will be on Mondays and Fridays with Cauz. Today’s segment was hilarious – Landsberg is much more appealing and funny on radio than on TV. I’m starting to find it hard to listen to Blair after listening to Cauz these past 2 weeks.

So far, I don’t think Dave Feschuk has good chemistry with Naylor when he’s the solo co-host. Compare his appearance today with when he was on with Cauz on Monday where he was very good. With Naylor, Feschuk works best when he’s the third wheel(as with Arthur earlier this week). Right now, I prefer Naylor with Beirness or Simmons, although to be fair it may be too early in the Naylor experiment to make any quick judgements.

the last radio ratings book is frighteningly bad if you’re an exec (or talent) at TSNR. It’s that bad. Hopefully TSM can get show vs show numbers, with demos etc…but I’ll find it hard to believe anything is even close judging by the overall stations numbers.

if the roundtable was going to do two segments on “hockey violence,” I wish they would have brought in one of the “cro-magnon” Sportsnet contingent (like Marek or Brad May) to discuss the topics.

It was fun for once for the Roundtable to be watching/analyzing a live event as it happened (the WBC game). I suspect Bob will be killing Ernie Whitt for quite a while now.

My favourite line from the PTS roundable on Friday was when McCown mentioned that Butch Carter had been a guest in the 4 PM hour and Brunt said this:

“What was Butch’s solution for the Raptors?………….other than hire Butch as head coach, which is normally Butch’s solution”

A few stats for NCAA bracket selections:

Did anyone notice that at one point early in the roundtable, Shannon introduced himself as a Friend of Bob? Perhaps a hint that he visits this website?

Also, will this week mark the return of Wilner to a McCowan-hosted edition of PTS, with both of them in Dunedin for the next two weeks? McCowan denied that Wilner was banned from the show when asked point blank by Tim and Sid a while back.

@JayB, I hope so.

Mike has gotten along really well with Jack Morris on the radio broadcasts and he seems less annoying and annoyed these days.

It would be interesting to hear Bob and Mike chat.

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
