  • Walker talks about Ricky Romero’s struggles, trying to help him get out of it, and the Jays sticking with him
  • Walker talks about Brett Cecil and that he got a little velocity back and it’s enough for a left handed pitcher, says that they don’t want him to gain velocity but pitch badly

  • Walker says it’s possible that Casey Jannsen might break with the team, and that he looks good

Rest of hour: Listener phone calls with Bob McCown and Stephen Brunt

  • Calls are about various topics: If the Leafs can trade for DiPietro’s contract and get a draft pick for taking it on, if Tiger Woods will win another major, if in the future athletes will be allowed to use PEDs for healing, some question about the Jays

5pm hour – Bob McCown hosting, Stephen Brunt and Damien Cox co-hosting

First segment: Talk segment

  • Discussion about Brett Lawrie, whether he can stay healthy the way he plays
  • Discussion about Brett Cecil and what his role will be on the team

Second segment: Interview with Nick Kypreos, Sportsnet hockey analyst

  • Kypreos discusses the possibility of Jay Feaster being fired in Calgary
  • Bob asks Kypreos about the possibility of the Leafs accepting Rick DiPietro’s contract from the Islanders to get their first round pick and then buy out the contract, Kypreos doesn’t think it’ll happen
  • Kypreos thinks it’s more likely the Ducks will sign Cory Perry and trade him to the Leafs

Third segment: Interview with Don Banks, Sports Illustrated football reporter

  • Bob asks about Ryan Fitzpatrick, if the Bills really are cutting their ties with him, Banks says that they are and Fitzpatrick will probably become a veteran backup
  • Brunt asked if this means the Bills will draft a quarterback, Banks says it’s likely that they will because of how desperate they are for a quarterback
  • Cox asks Banks if Jim Irsay’s tweet about being on a plane with money to sign somebody is true, Banks thinks they are going to try to sign people but that they haven’t got anything done yet
  • Brunt asks whether Wes Welker is leaving New England and who is going to replace him, Banks thinks New England will re-sign Welker

6pm hour – Bob McCown hosting, Stephen Brunt and Damien Cox co-hosting

First segment: Interview with Casey Janssen, Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher

  • Janssen talks about his recovery from surgery and preparing himself for the season, where he is now vs. where he’d be if he didn’t have to recover from surgery
  • Janssen talks about the closers role, says that he doesn’t care if the Jays want him to be the 8th inning set-up guy but that he enjoyed being the closer last year
  • Cox asks Janssen if he’s tried to fiddle around with the knuckleball after seeing Dickey, he says a lot of guys try to fiddle with it but it’s hard to be good at it
  • Bob asks who Janssen thinks would be the other team to compete with the Jays if the Jays are competing for the division title, Janssen picks the Yankees because they’re always at the top
  • Bob asks if John Farrell’s situation was a distraction last year, Janssen says that he came in every day and gave it 100% and that the players have moved on

Second segment: Interview with Bob Ryan, Boston Globe

  • Ryan talks about the controversy in Boston over the Red Sox signing Ortiz to a 2 year deal when they knew he was injured
  • Brunt asks if part of the reason is to keep Ortiz away from the Yankees, Ryan says it’s possible because the Yankees are looking for a DH
  • Ryan thinks that all of the pressure in the AL East is on the Jays because of the questions around the Yankees and Red Sox
  • Ryan talks about Wes Welker not being offered a contract by the Patriots

Third segment: Interview with Pete Walker, Toronto Blue Jays pitching coach

  • Replay of the interview from the 4pm hour

So today was a normal show with 2 Jays guests.  I thought both were interesting interviews, though, it was pretty clear that Janssen was not going to badmouth John Farrell no matter how Bob or Cox phrased the question.  Given how many questions I seem to hear on othe radio by Jays fans about Romero, Janssen and other Jays pitchers, having 2 pitching guests on to talk about just those things probably was what they wanted to hear.

Cox’s question to Banks was really odd, and I tried to sum it up the best I could there.  Basically, he seemed to be referring to a tweet Jim Irsay made about being on a plane with bags of money to sign players, and Cox kept asking Banks if that’s true.  Banks was a little confused, and apparently Cox meant if it’s literally true, that Irsay was on a plane at that moment with cash to throw at players.  It was weird because obviously he’s not literally doing that.  Cox should just have asked what the Colts are planning to do in terms of free agent signings, because ultimately that’s the question Banks answered.

I wonder how many segments Bob, Brunt and Cox can discuss the concerns about Romero until they get bored of it.
