Yesterday was my mom’s birthday, so I was busy and didn’t have time to listen to the podcast or write a review.

So yesterday I was listening to TSN radio at noon because the FAN was on a commercial. ( I flip between the two stations at noon during each stations commercials) At about 12:40 or so a caller phones in (I believe his name was Carmen). This guy had no clue about much of anything when it comes to hockey or especially the Toronto Maple Leafs, but the caller and Mclennan got into it for about 3 mintues. Mclennan said about 3 times to cut this guy off, but Hayes kept the caller on the air. It started out by the caller saying that Phaneuf should be a healthy scratch for the Leafs but he quickly went onto say that Mike Kostka was nothing more then a beer league player and McLennan got right pissed off. Then about a minute after that he said that McLennan knows nothing about hockey and couldnt skate – something to that extent. Anyway it was a priceless phone in, but I do appreciate Jamie Mclennan for telling this guy like it is but at the same time keeping it professional. Say what you want about McLennan, but from when I listen to him, which is usually for about half their show everyday, I like his insight and comments about hockey and the Leafs. Sure he stumbles and bumbles over some words, but who doesnt from time to time. I find that him and Hayes usually have some pretty good discussions going on at noon and they quite often keep me listening to them for the rest of that segment and I dont change back to the Fan until TSN goes to a commercial.

Just on a side note I have watched the NHL network since it began and have always tuned into the NHL on the Fly, now known as Hockey Tonight just because I am an avid hockey fan. I know now the station is bascically in cahoots with TSN and that is okay by me, but even on there Jamie Mclennan does a great job when he is on from time to time. I am not trying to make this a Jamie Mclennan topic here (believe it or not) but I find former players even have it or they dont when it comes to broadcasting. And I think guys like Kypreos, Mike Johnson, Dave Reid, Kevin Weekes, and I am sure I am missing others, all do an excellent job.

I heard that call on 1050 yesterday during the noon hour………….I’m not sure why Hayes let the guy go on for several minutes………….I guess he thought it made for good radio………….but callers rarely make for good radio, especially callers who aren’t very smart
