Compare Lawton’s piece to Brunt’s column on Sportsnet and you see what’s missing from the ignorant Brunt’s bland restatement of well known facts. This morning, Brady called Brunt’s article “great”. Too bad he didn’t point out what the “great” parts were. Or maybe he said that because the dopey Brunt was on the air with him.

Been watching Onrait and O’Toole. I find it very strange that there’s this 2 month send off for them.

The fact that they are going to FOX and not ESPN in the U.S., is surprising to me. That TSN did not let them walk, since TSN is owned by ESPN, and FOX is considered a competitor.

Also strange to me is that they have free reign to mention that they’re leaving on air …”You know with our depature” or. “We’ll miss a lot of things here…”
I just went on TSN’s webite, and under twitter, Onrait tweets “Fox took new publicity photos”

I just find the whole thing weird. If they were going to Sportsnet, would they have been off the air sooner at TSN?

The fact that they are permitted to stay, and mention that they are leaving, and when tweeting about going to a competitor while still emplyoyed with their current workplace, is odd, and in my opinion, wrong.

They gave notice, they need not mention it on air, or tweet about it on TSN’s website. I find that disrespectful.

Unless TSN has a stake FOX Sports that I am unawre of, and TSN doesn’t seem to mind.

Or TSN thinks people will tune in to see their final shows and hoping for a ratings bump.

Normally, talent is taken off the air before they leave, so no farewell tour cane be done.

The only times i can remember off top of my head is when the person still had a reltionship with the network. Like, when kornheiser left espn radio, but was still on PTI?

Technically, Mr Tony is still on ESPN. His show is on ESPN 980 in DC from 10am – Noon. Catch it soon before he goes to the beach house in Delaware for the summer.

In any event, it’s distateful, and disrespectful to your current employer.

However, if TSN doesn’t mind, which it seems that they don’t, I guess these two guys can say that they’re leaving as much as they like, without any worry.

It’s not like they’ll be panicked if TSN fires them.

Brunt lacks soccer knowledge. He comes across as knowledgeable as he uses superlatives and hyperboles but he lacks any substance in his opinions (see SAF article). Moreover, I find that Brunt lacks substance in a lot of areas but is crafty with his words thus coming across credible.

One area I find him to be quite knowledgeable and interesting is boxing. He is insightful and has many great stories but when it comes to soccer I feel that Sportsnet is trying to bring credibility to their soccer coverage by using Brunt but in actuality he doesn’t have much to say that has any insight or substance. They should just let their soccer guys cover soccer and leave Brunt to cover his areas of strength.

it’s probably because fox sports 1 won’t be available in Canada, so they don’t feel like they’re “pumping the tires” of the “competition” because in fact, FS1 won’t be competition to TSN.

If Onrait and O’toole are really that much of a phenomena in Canada, would FAN590 or Sportsnet try to get them on occasionally when they move to FOX sports? Sportsnet has many other FOX Sports personalities that show up on their various shows.

@ami doubtful…. I mean, they’re just anchors. How often are anchors from other stations guests on SN590?

I meant when he left espn radio before he went to washington post radio (and changed the show for the worse, imo) and then back to 980/red zebra when he got the mnf gig.

Other anchors don’t beat the competition by 20 to 1 in the ratings (Dec.21, 2012 Toronto Life link). Even Bob doesn’t accomplish this, and there’s more money in TV ads.

Also their podcast has been #1 on itunes since it started 30 weeks ago.

Mentioning Jay and Dan going to LA helps burnish TSN’s image as a lot of Canadians are only impressed when entertainers make in in the US. The resulting publicity also might boost ratings for their show and other shows that are plugged when Jay and Dan are on the air. Also, TSN wants to keep on good terms with Jay and Dan if they return to Canada. Although maybe Sportsnet wouldn’t want Jay and Dan as they seem to have a no personality, no talent rule for hiring anchors.

Not satisfied with Brunt’s views on new Manchester United? Here’s the goods from Finch Farm.
