In the 10am update, Mike Farwell mentioned that Serena Williams and Roger Federer were playing today, but didn’t mention the Williams match was in progress and in the 3rd set. Barb DiGiulio didn’t mention the match at all at 10:20, but mentioned it was over at 10:40. I know the French Open is on TSN, but is Sportsnet covering major sporting events or not? Is this the kind of small minded sports network Keith Pelley and Scott Moore want to build?

At least that “great” tennis fan is tweeting about the French Open. He was going insane during the Federer upset. Actually not one word. Stay classy, Sportsnet.

Forgot to name the non-tweeting tennis aficionado: Damien Cox

Masai Ujiri said he was ‘home’ and got applause from the media? Yeah, and it only took $15 million for him to come home. Can we stop with the BS ‘home’, and ‘the large Turkish community played a role in coming here’ (Colangelo on Hedo Turkoglu), etc, etc…. I can understand why no one is going to say out loud they came for the money, but does the media have to applaud and go along with it?

TSM attacking Mike Toth for asking why Colangelo wasn’t at the press conference? Yes, why on earth would the President of a basketball team be there for a press conference unveiling the new GM? Not only does that bum Colangelo get millions more for not doing his job, but we apparently have to be mindful of his hurt feelings too, and excuse his absence today. Why isn’t the great Toth on TSN, reminding everyone of a young Cosell(or a younger Bob).

At least TSM hasn’t written a post about the negative TO media. Oh, wait… That’s a real danger, a negative media. Instead of a meretricious one I suppose.

4 posts in 51 minutes, bro?

And angry ones?

Go outside or something.

The Bell folks who pay your hourly wages won’t be happy you’re tuned in for 4 straight 590 updates.

But sure, they should be giving live French Open scores. I do agree.

And that was hardly the media applauding him. Those news conferences get filled up with MLSE lackeys. You’d have to be real thick to think the media clapped. Your invite must have gotten lost in the mail, Kamlesh. They’d have made you applaud also.

can someone … TSM maybe? … summarize the Toth twaddle for those of us out of touch with the Twitter Intelligentsia?

also, Julian, be grateful for few people who post here. Without them (us … you … me) there’s really no other discussion of the many failings of the Toronto sports media.

I read the comments here because I know people who are ticked off about something — say a rival network refraining from mentioning that a sporting event is ongoing — will bring it up. If they/we stop commenting, then wretched people like Shannon end up with jobs for life.

Kamlesh — after the Colangelo fiasco, no amount of media pandering will keep fans coming to the ACC. The Raptors are one of the worst franchises in pro sports, yet they have had plenty of media cheerleaders in this market. If this team is not better next year then I expect attendance will crater. And then the Raptors media will have the same job as the people who cover TFC,namely covering an awful product no one cares about.

Here is what happened with Toth:

– he now works for CFRB 1010 and he attended the Raptors news conference

– he asked a question to Leiweke & Ujiri that was something like this: “can we read anything into the fact that Bryan Colangelo is not on the podium for this press conference?”

– he also asked Leiweke if the re-branding of the Raptors may include a name change

– Brady was on 590 after the press conference and he criticized Toth for asking the Colangelo question

– on Twitter TSM was also critical of Toth regarding the Colangelo question
