So with Dan Dunleavy heading for Buffalo, there are some 40+ games with no current play by play person for Toronto Maple Leafs games on radio.
Who do you want to get the gig?
Gary Thorne ? He would be great backing up Joe Bowen. Has tons of experience calling NHL MLB etc on both radio and TV.
As long as its not Jim Houston hes a voice that sounds amazing on mute, can CBC send him back to Vancouver please
Personally thought that Dunleavy was really lame. So contrived.
Buffalo is the perfect destination for him.
Cannot see John Bartlett wanting to give up the full time gig of Montreal Canadiens games on the radio, as well as the odd TSN TV assignment for half of the Leaf games on radio with likely Leafs TV duties.
Dennis Beyak decided it would be better to do all of the Winnipeg Jets games than half of the Leafs games……………now Dunleavy leaves for Buffalo instead of doing half of the Leafs games……………when you include Ken Daniels (Detroit) there have been quite a few Leafs radio play-by-play guys who have left for better NHL opportunities over the years
A great point Mike S… Joe Bowen has been the voice of Leafs hockey for over a quarter of a century, but all of his alternate broadcasters have used the Leafs as a springboard to full time play by play.
Looks like Bonesy has a got a lot left in the tank as well, so this will still be half the season on radio for the forseeable future.
That said many broadcasters would give their right eye for this gig 🙂
They just had Jon Abbott on 1050…………..apparently he is replacing Dunleavy as Leafs radio play by play announcer when Bowen is on television………….Abbott was the Marlies play by play guy last year
