From all the comments I’ve heard and read about the Markham arena proposal discussed by Scott Stinson on PTS, it seems few who live there support it or are being fooled by the silly, misleading attempt to claim it is now 100% privately funded. Some of the comments also said that the claims that a 19,500-seat suburban GTA arena could easily survive without a pro sports team as prime tenant were delusional. Since the Molson Amphitheatre (in 1995) and Air Canada Centre (1999) opened, they get most of the large music events, with few left over for anyone else. Rogers Centre lost most of its concert business, as did the Kingswood Music Theatre at Canada’s Wonderland. BMO Field has had one concert since it opened in 2007, at the same Exhibition Place location where the old stadium/grandstand was demolished after it had sat unused for several years. Someone tried using the Rexall Centre tennis stadium at York University as a concert venue for a few months in the summer of 2011, then gave up.

2 good interviews by Naylor/Hodge. First, Richard Peddie on the Markham arena, whether a stadium can survive without a regular sports tenant(with a few specific numbers) and a second hockey team in Toronto.

Second was the interview with former NFL player Nate Jackson about his book “Slow Getting Up”. Jackson talked about the false celebrity narrative of the NFL media, marijuana, HGH, etc…The book also got a rave, in the NY Times, from Dwight Garner.

That review of “Slow Getting Up” has this quote about Bob favourite team.

“He saves his greatest scorn for the coach Eric Mangini, for whom he briefly played with the Cleveland Browns. He found Mr. Mangini to be cruel and arbitrary, a coach who broke his team’s spirit. Mr. Jackson arrives in the locker room and thinks, “To a man, the entire Browns teams seems to be deep in despair.” ”

TSN had a better NFL preview than Sportsnet and now have produced a better NHL preview.

HaHa, Bruin players call Milan Lucic “Bob” as in McKenzie.
