Victor Newman? What an obscure impression. I would have no idea who that was if a former girlfriend had not told me back in the 1990s when Richards was on Fan590 (or was it still 1430 at the time?).

For those who may be interested in seeing Canadian TV ratings for sports events, Chris Zelkovich still sometimes lists them, as he often did when he was at The Star.

When McCown won that award a few days ago, he chatted with Cox (I think) about his career a bit at the end of PTS. He essentially revealed he was doing an act, and said something like ‘if you do this every day for 3 hours a day, you better have an act or it will get pretty boring’.

Listening to Naylor and Hodge this week, that struck me a bit. I think Naylor is smart and decent to listen to, but him and Hodge were just so dry. I find Bryan Hayes the same way. It’s not that those guys should become shock jocks or dumb down their conversations, but I think they need work on their presentation. The most successful radio hosts do seem to be playing a character somewhat.

As they say about pro wrestlers, they play themselves cranked up to 11.

Like true of radio, especially sports talk.

I’d be surprised if a host with ostentatious personality was quiet and mild mannered when the light goes off.

Only His Worship, Mayor Rob Ford is always himself.

Two basketball developments. Sportnet.ca has hired ex-Raptor Mike James as a columnist, and TSN will televise all of Andrew Wiggins’ games this season.

If 1050 or 590 aren’t going to use Bill Watters there should be a TSM-Watters podcast about the Leafs.
