Could Rogers Tighten Toronto Blue Jays Budget Belt?

The same good folks who tipped me off to the trimmings at Rogers media a few weeks back are telling me that the new CEO of Rogers could be asking for a cut in the Toronto Blue Jays budget as well.

How much, when or even if I can’t say for sure, but I trust those who are telling me enough to pass along to you.

It seems that bottom line is going to be much more important at Rogers and this is one area where things will be watched closely.

Stay tuned I guess.

I’ll let you know if I hear more.

A budget pull back would be consistent with other parts of Rogers operations, but would be so very shortsighted as it relates to the Jays.

They are popular again. People, but perhaps more importantly, the young demographic want to be a part of the Jays, they want to identify with them. They are buying hats and it is cool to go to a Jays game.

I remember a few years ago someone winning 4 Jays tickets at a golf tourney, and the response was “Oh great, now I have to go to Toronto to watch that.”

Bail now because of budget, Roger’s basically baisl on the fan base – new and old.

Good luck getting them back.

I really hope you’re wrong. Was about time the Jays started acting like a big market team..

Every other team in MLB, save the Mets, are flush with new tv money and the Jays are thinking about cutting back? Good luck with that.

Is Rogers trying to cheap out again? Bring back J.P. and he can bring down the payroll back down to $50 million again. Apparently, TSN hired Ron Burgundy. They will announce his role at the Grey Cup on Sunday. Could they have won the negotiation for the NHL rights and will they announce it then too?
