Rogers to announce NHL pairings?

By TSM

Unconfirmed reports tonight that Rogers will be unveiling its NHL broadcast teams shortly. Part of what I’ve been told is that the pairing for leafs non Saturdays/ weekday regional games will be Paul Romanuck / Greg Millen. Again that’s one rumor I’ve heard from reliable sources. That would align with rumblings that Joe Bowen is out of the tv side of things. The radio announcement would follow after.

Stay tuned

500 million a year to buy exclusive National NHL rights and they bring in a former B-Team game-caller from TSN Paul Romanuk? I will be incredibly disappointed. With the huge deal I was hoping for a big increase in production value. Regardless of what the show looks like, Paul Romanuk is associated with Jr Hockey and should stay there. He degrades the product. Ya ya, its only regional games, but if true, this wreaks of Rogers budget cuts. ( with new British CEO ).

If there is no Joe Bowen then there is something we’re not hearing. Either Leafs co-owners Rogers doesn’t want to appear too pro-Leafs, or Joe is too old to start a 12 year NHL run or something else. I will enjoy the hell out of him on radio while I mute the Leafs audio from my TV.

Sure, Joe Bowen is a homer for the Leafs. However, I would rather listen to his “Holy Mackinaw” catch phrase than the main broadcaster leader ask Greg Millen a question and his trademark, “No doubt about it” or “No question about it?!”

Romanik proved years ago he wasn’t up to it. Why do we have to endure him again? Once was more than enough.

The Sportsnet press release says that Bowen will be 590’s exclusive voice of Maple Leafs games, alongside Jim Ralph, and that Gord Stellick will be hosting the post game show. No mention of John Abbott or Ric Natress:

There isn’t any need for John Abbott anymore. Bowen does all the radio games, Romanuk on Sportsnet’s regional coverage. As for Natress, you’d think someone would be in the booth with Stellick for two hours but if Rogers is really worried about costs…

What Darryl says….
Please, why oh why does the Leaf broadcast have to have Greg Millen???

He may be a nice guy, but he goes so far out of his way to NOT be a Leaf fan, and he uses the same old cliches, time and time again….

Rogers, please reconsider. Millen loves Ottawa…

guess this is what you get from a crappy organization like Rogers the B team. I wonder if Bell would go for it if Rogers were to sell them half the National package in return SN get’s to use the TSN talent.
