McCown and Cox.

Neither has had a modern, updated or novel opinion since the 1990’s. They both make me feel old listening or watching them and there are too many viable and expert alternatives out there to take them seriously any longer.

Damien ” Constantly Interrupting Everybody ” Cox and Michael ” Can’t Put A Coherent Sentence Together ” Grange. They’re both unlistenable.

McCowan is still interesting at times. But it was enlightening to watch his documentary because if anything it showed me how he used to be very in-touch with the sporting landscape. He’s still very talented but I feel like he’s too involved with things such as his winery and other personal ventures to have in-depth conversations with major sporting figures. His interviews almost always start with 5-10 minutes of personal anecdotes and stories that no one cares about. But I still think he has a place in the MSM.

My list —
1) Simmons
2) Cox
3) Jays broadcast team – specifically – Buck Martinez, Pat Tabler and that god awful Kevin Barker who spews cliche after cliche after cliche.

Amazingly, on one has mentioned Shannon yet. I guess, out of sight out of mind.

1. Tim & Sid…more interested in their self-promotion and comedy than sports. They actually promoted an interview that Sid did with Mike Tyson as “I can’t wait for these two huge personalities to share the airwaves with each other” uh….yeah…..I’m sure Tyson was champing at the bit to get the opportunity to work with a luminary like Sid

2. Anyone employed by Rogers who covers the Blue Jays…Soviet Russia would have been impressed with the level of propaganda spewed by Buck, Tabler, Wilner, Campbell, Zaun et al.

3. Hate to say it but I would like to see Jack Armstrong and Leo Rautins take a lesser role in the broadcasting of basketball in this country. I seems like these two voices cover everything from the Raptors, the NBA in general, NCAA Hoops, CIS and, unfortunately, there is no way they can be experts at all those things and it shows in the poor quality of their insight. Jack spews clichés and Leo’s analysis is generally if the ball went in the basket then it was an amazing play and if they missed then it was terrible. Some new voices would be appreciated

Damien Cox, John Shannon, Jeff Blair, Caroline Cameron, Mike Wilner. And get rid of tabler and take Joe S from radio and onto television broadcast

Ken Reid – should never be allowed on prime time radio.
Mike Wilner – I literally turn the dial. He brings nothing. Anyone can play devils advocate
Jeff Sammut – someone tell him it’s his show, he doesn’t have to agree with everyone.

1. John Shannon. A decent source on the business of broadcasting, Shannon as a broadcaster himself is embarrassingly bad. Horrible voice … equally bad delivery.
2. Michael Grange. Although a solid reporter and good writer, he likewise should be nowhere near a microphone. He is almost as difficult to listen to as Shannon.
3. Mike Wilner. The smartass routine has run its course.

So many worthy names already mentioned. Quite the indictment on how poorly served we are here.

Unlike some of the other posts, I think there is room for the elderly statesmen in the radio business. I like the fact that most have stop being “fans” of teams, and more often than not, treat sports as the businesses they represent.

That being said:
1. As a CFL fan, Mike Hogan is far more a fan of the Argos than he should be…
(his nasal based delivery can be grating on the ears)
2. Jeff Samut
3. Brian Hayes
+ almost all no-name, late-nighters on both radio stations.

@Sperk I do hate it when Tim and Sid read tweets on air praising themselves or guests.

Cox, Wilner & Shannon. Guaranteed to make me switch the dial. Matter of fact, find myself listening to TSN majority of time now.
These 3 come across to me as so full of themselves.

Rogers Sportsnet, including the Fan 590. I can’t watch or listen to anything Rogers touches sports-wise.

Wow, lots of hate for Sportsnet.

I will go with Cox, he is the worst and Steve Simmons. Both are terrible. I would also like to make a special consideration for the tv production staff at TSN Radio. Keep the bloody camera still! The constantly moving camera makes me sick.

I’m tempted to say Shannon (590) or Butch (590)…………but they are tolerable in small doses (as a guest and not as a co-host)

I’m also tempted to say Jeff Sammut (590) or Ben Ennis (590) or Andy McNamara (1050)……….but they are mainly weekend and fill-in guys

That leaves me with Mike Richards (1050)………..he is not funny and he is not entertaining or insightful to me in any way…………when I hear his voice I change the station immediately

#1. Buck Martinez. He has an annoying habit of overusing the word “long” in his conversation as in, “he has had command of the strike zone all night long”, or “they have been in the basement all year long” and on and on. The word “long” does not need to be added to those sentences.
Also, how he pronounces Jose Bautista drives me nuts. “Bowtista” as in “bow-wow”. He has to go.
#2. Ken Read. This guy reminds me of the geeky nerd who got a part in the play next to the hot girl and now they think he is talented. Other than obscure Atlantic Grand Prix wrestling comments, he contributes nothing to the shows he frequents. The barrel is being scraped here.

So basically no one like anyone on the Jays broadcast crew. Sounds about right to me. Time for a fresh start.

I can’t help but notice how negative everybody is, but they seem to keep listening. Reality is sports media people are like ice cream flavours” you like some, you don’t like others. But all of them have fans and all of them have detractors.
