DraftKings announced on Wednesday that they’ve entered a deal with the National Hockey League to become an Official Sports Betting, Daily Fantasy Sports, and iGaming Partner of the NHL in the United States. The company also announced an agreement with Turner Sports to be their exclusive sportsbook and daily fantasy sports provider for the network’s coverage of the NHL.
The NHL will provide DraftKings access to the use of official league marks and logos as part of the deal, which was signed for an undisclosed number of years. DraftKings is expected to promote their brand during signature league events like the NHL All-Star Weekend, and Stanley Cup Playoffs and Finals. As is typical with such deals, the sportsbook will be included for advertising and content integrations in the NHL’s digital and other media channels.
Turner Sports, the NHL, and DraftKings
Last April, Turner Sports signed a deal with the NHL to broadcast regular season games and the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Final. This will be the first time that the NHL has signed a national contract with the Turner Sports network, which has focused largely on their MLB and NBA coverage with game broadcasts, popular studio shows, and postseason coverage.
Turner will broadcast 50 regular season games during the 2021-22 NHL season, with odds and content from DraftKings expected to be integrated into that programming. Currently, DraftKings has a presence on studio and game broadcasting on Turner Sports for both the NBA and MLB.
As part of their deal with the NHL, Turner will air the Stanley Cup Final exclusively in three of the next seven years, while also broadcasting several rounds of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
DraftKings will also have their content and odds shared on the Bleacher Report network of websites, which is owned by Turner Sports. According to the release, DraftKings will “provide sports betting information and daily fantasy content across Turner Sports telecasts and Bleacher Report digital channels including the B/R app.”
