BetRivers To Launch Social Gaming in Canada

BetRivers, through its parent company Rush Street Interactive, Inc., announced last week that it has launched a social gaming platform in the Ontario province in Canada. CASINO4FUN, the new platform, offers free-to-play online casino and sportsbook games.

The Canadian province has legalized online casino gaming, but wagering has been limited in Ontario to PROLINE+. Currently, this is the only sportsbook accepting bets.

RSI’s entry into Canada will provide some competition for gaming dollars in the country in the future. Its initial release will be a free-to-play version. Canada marks the third country where RSI and BetRivers operate social gaming.

CASINO4FUN is currently available in Ontario on mobile devices, tablets, desktop computers, and laptops through Users must be 19 and older to play CASINO4FUN from BetRivers.

The Status of Online Betting in Canada

On June 23, 2021, the Canadian parliament passed bill C-218, which made sports betting legal in the country under certain circumstances. Under the new law, single-event wagers are acceptable. Previously, bettors could partake in parlay-style sports betting or casino games. Lotteries were also available under the auspices of one of five Canadian lottery commissions.

Operators must apply with specific regulatory agencies in the provinces where they wish to launch a sportsbook or online casino. In the weeks and months following the passage of bill C-218, several operators have expressed interest in entering the market. BetRivers is one of the first US operators to formally enter the Canadian market with an online sportsbook or casino game.

The launch of real-money sports betting is pending licensing approval from regulators in Ontario. According to a press release from BetRivers, that approval will come within the next few months. The launch of CASINO4FUN tests the betting platform in Canada and gets users to sign up early.
