Where Can You Bet On The Edmonton Oilers In Ontario?

DraftKings, BetMGM, and Caesars are our top-recommended options for betting on the Edmonton Oilers. These are top-rate sportsbooks known for dealing competitive odds at fair prices. It’s to your benefit to compare the betting lines at different sportsbooks to secure the best odds on your wagers.

TeamPuckline
MoneylineTotal
Edmonton+1.5 (-169)+1400 6.5 (-120)
Pittsburgh-1.5 (+150)-152U 6.5 (+110)

Using the odds from the Edmonton-Pittsburgh game above, the Oilers were an underdog on the road against the Penguins. Edmonton ended up winning the game handily by a score of 5-1. What bets were cashed as a result? A $100 wager on Edmonton on the moneyline returned $140. Moneyline bets are wagers on a team just to win the game regardless of a spread. The Oilers also cashed on the puckline at +1.5 goals, but you had to wager $169 to win $100 there. A $100 bet on under 6.5 goals paid $110 as the combined number of goals was six.

Edmonton Oilers 2021-22 Team Schedule

NHL teams play an 82-game regular season that starts in October and ends in April. The NHL Playoffs begin in May and conclude with the Stanley Cup championship in June. Edmonton was ranked second in the Pacific Division with two games remaining in the regular season. Center Connor McDavid, who has won the NHL MVP Award on two occasions, led the Oilers with 122 points on the season.

Edmonton Oilers Betting News And Updates

The Oilers are again being led by reigning NHL MVP Connor McDavid. Here are five highlights from the 2021-22 season:

  • April 26: McDavid collects four points on a goal and three assists in a 5-1 victory at Pittsburgh.
  • March 7: BetMGM enters a marketing partnership with McDavid, who will serve as a brand ambassador for the company when it enters Ontario’s open and regulated sports betting market.
  • January 8-16: Four Oilers games are postponed due to attendance restrictions in Canada as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • October 22: The Oilers win their fifth consecutive game to start the season with a 5-3 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights.
  • October 13: The Oilers open the 2021-22 season with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Vancouver Canucks.

How Are Odds On The Edmonton Oilers Calculated?

Oddsmakers at sportsbooks such as DraftKings, BetMGM, and PointsBet set the opening lines for games involving the Edmonton Oilers. They weigh the relative strengths and weaknesses of the two teams competing in the games. Starting goaltenders are often a critical factor in the betting line. Let’s use our previous example to help explain how odds work.

TeamPuckline
MoneylineTotal
Edmonton+1.5 (-169)+1400 6.5 (-120)
Pittsburgh-1.5 (+150)-152U 6.5 (+110)

Sportsbooks charge a fee, known as the vig, to handle your bet. At standard odds of -110, meaning you have to bet $11 to win $10, the vig is 4.36%. The vig on this puckline is incredibly low at 2.83% and even lower on the moneyline at 1.89%.

On the puckline (or spread in hockey), Edmonton was getting +1.5 goals to add to their total. This ended up being inconsequential as the Oilers won the game outright by a score of 5-1. Let’s say Pittsburgh had won the game by a score of 3-2. You would have won with Edmonton on the puckline as you were getting 1.5 goals. The two teams combined for a total of six goals, meaning the under bet cashed based on the total being set at 6.5.

Moneyline Odds

As mentioned previously, a bet on the moneyline only requires your chosen team to win the game outright. In this case, Edmonton came up huge as a +140 underdog on the road against Pittsburgh. A $100 bet on the Oilers would have returned $140, and you would have received your initial $100 stake back in the process.

Futures Odds

The best example of futures odds on the Edmonton Oilers comes when discussing their chances of winning the Stanley Cup championship. Futures odds are available throughout the season and they can change dramatically over the course of 82 games. Edmonton started the 2021-2022 NHL season with odds of +2800 to win the Stanley Cup. Based on their performance during the regular season, those odds were as low as +1800 at Caesars Sportsbook.

The key with futures odds is to shop around the market because they can vary much more than pucklines or totals. PointsBet was dealing the Oilers at +2500 to win the Stanley Cup. A $100 bet on the Oilers there would win $2,500 compared to just $1,800 on the same wager at Caesars. The bottom line here is that it always pays to compare odds and shop around. Successful sports bettors understand the importance of opening multiple accounts with different sportsbooks to get the best odds on their plays.

There are also futures odds on Edmonton to be the winner of the NHL’s Western Conference. Here are those odds from BetMGM:

TeamOdds
Avalanche              +135
Flames                    +375
Oilers                      +800
Wild                       +800
Blues                      +1000
Golden Knights      +1400
Predators               +1600
Stars                       +1800
Kings                      +2200
Canucks                  +12500

The Avalanche is the betting favorite. Colorado has the shortest odds, so it will have the smallest payout on this futures bet. The Oilers are marked mid-range at +800. If you believe Edmonton can win the Western Conference, a $100 bet would return $800 if the Oilers win.

Prop Bets On The Edmonton Oilers

We mentioned the fact that Connor McDavid won last year’s NHL MVP Award. There is a prop bet available on the winner of that award every year. In April 2022, McDavid was the second betting favorite to win the 2022 NHL MVP Award at odds of +300. Toronto’s Auston Matthews was the favorite at -310. Matthews’ bettors would have had to wager $310 just to win $100 because he was so heavily favored.

Individual Player Props

Let’s discuss prop bets for individual players in a game. Prop bets aren’t directly tied to the ultimate outcome of the game. McDavid’s player prop for goals was 0.5 against Pittsburgh at BetMGM. So, you were essentially betting that he would score at least one goal to win the prop bet at odds of +124. He did just that, so your $100 bet would have returned $124. We use $100 as a benchmark figure, but you don’t have to wager that much or that little. It just makes our calculations easier to understand.

There are also prop bets for the number of shots, assists, and points a player will have in a game. This form of betting can really enhance your experience of watching an NHL game.
